So, I'm lazy. Like, really lazy. Soooo lazy that I can't even bring myself to write about fantastic TV. But now I've deliberately stranded myself in a cafe for a few hours so I'll actually get some work done.
And what do you know, I'm procrastinating by admiring Blogger's nice new format for writing posts. Really, it's rather snazzy. Very sleek and pretty and shiny and.....Focus Sarah! *slaps self* Focus!
So here's all you need to know about 5 shows that are currently rocking my summer vacation. And yes, two of these shows don't really count as Sci or Fy, but they're on TV in the summer and they're great. And if there's anything I've learned in the last month, it's that summer TV sucks. Also, this, is the most amazing recipe ever: http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2011/03/peanut_butter_and_jelly_bars.
Yep that's my summer so far. Very very yummy.
[Sanctuary is first and the longest cause, well, I'm biased. It's my favorite. And Doctor Who is at the end because of the absolutely massive amount of spoilers.] : )
I seem to have lost my previous post due to a Blogger mishap. Here's the blips that got saved since I'm already working on next week. Leave comments if you want me to extrapolate or just feel like saying hello. Sorry!
Well, it turns out in the end, Thor is really just a story about love. No seriously. The last 15 minutes or so is The Matrix meets Hercules without good music, deep existentialistic complications, or that guy who does the voice of Hades.
Three scify heavy shows are now on television: Sanctuary, Dr. Who, and Game of Thrones. And though last week was rather "packed full of jam" (thank you, 200th episode of SG1) I did manage to watch them all. Much to the detriment of my productivity.
By the way, SANCTUARY IS MOVING TO MONDAYS. Now even Garfield can't hate them too much. Tune in tonight for the return of Abby Corrigan in what looks to be a very interesting episode called "One Night."
Anyway, I recommend watching all three, but read on for a few more details why (warning, some spoilers of past episodes).
That's right, Sanctuary is back this Friday at 10pm. I will be playing my little heart out in a performance of Cabaret, so unfortunately I'll have to catch the early-o'-clock rerun. Also, Game of Thrones (the HBO series based on George R.R. Martin's brilliant fantasy series, Song of Ice and Fire) premieres on Sunday, April 17th. And if that isn't enough to keep you going, Doctor Who returns April 23rd! So much wonderfulness.
But I'm going to dole it out in small portions. So first up, here's Space's (that's the UK version of SyFy) promo for Sanctuary Season 3.5. And may I just say - the British create far superior commercials. And there's a second promo out from SyFy. To be honest, the second one is almost a bit too spoilery for my taste, but just in terms of tossing a bunch of episode plotlines at you. I much prefer random clips that you get to decipher yourself - the Space one (on the left) totally succeeds at that.
Somewhere amidst all the homework, club responsibility, a college sponsored dance, and enticing video games, I managed to agree to actually have a relaxed night out with friends. And we went to see Paul!
And a month later, after crap tons of work, and volunteering to be in the orchestra of a musical, I finally finished the review. I don't think it's even in theatres anymore....Crud
Now, I wasn't so sure how it would be, but anything with Simon Pegg in it can't be awful. Then again, I've only seen him in Shaun of the Dead and Doctor Who, but he was so totally awesome in both so I'm a fan. Turns out he's as great a writer as he is an actor. Which is to say, incredibly offbeat and unexpected, but very enjoyable. Don't believe me? Check out this:
This may be a bit of an odd way to complement a movie, but it's very well written and cut. There's not a single scene that doesn't do something. I never wondered how long it had been, or how close we were to the end; the whole thing flowed really well.
Anyways, if you're a fan of alien-based SciFy and can take bunches of crude and nerdy humor, I highly recommend it. Check out the full review after the jump (but beware, there might be moderate spoilers, I'll try to not be specific).
Bottom Line -
SciFy: A surprisingly original mature-humor take on the "there's been an alien on Earth the whole time" story. Tons of references for any SciFy fan - the movie really focuses much more on the SciFy culture and media rather than actual science fiction.
...is For Lovers: You'll totally see it coming, but the main romance is still adorable and hilariously quirky. Tons of sexual jokes, mostly from Paul himself.
I am an ardent Sanctuary fan, so no surprise, I've been watching this clip for the second half of the 3rd season over and over since it was released on March 16th. Less than a month to go!
[Woo! Back from Spain! I've spent the last 48 hours traveling in one form or the other trying to get back to the States. More on Spain later]
That's right. This category is for the puzzling, the strange, the indescribable oddity that makes some actors and actresses entirely unforgettable - as well as incredibly difficult to explain to your friends. The mannerisms, the quirks, the perfect delivery of gibberish makes them pure on screen gold.
Winners:
Summer Glau
and
David Tennant
(Check out the Honorable Mentions though, there's some good ones)
That's right, this category is dedicated to the original, spontaneous, rule breaking actors and actresses both on and off screen. On screen their characters are everything between the lovable rouge and the fiendishly wonderful villain to the small, unexpectedly heart-wrenching guest appearance. No matter who they play, you remember them. Off screen these actors defy expectations, enjoying connecting with fans, taking risks, and letting the world see just how totally human they are. It's really no wonder that my final choices have been costars under the direction of the wonderful Joss Whedon (multiple times).
And to be honest, if this weren't restricted to actors and actresses, Joss Whedon would be the hands down winner of the category.
